The Evils of Laundry

I don't hate doing laundry. Thankfully, I have a nice washing machine and dryer and don't have to go to a laundromat to do it.

What I do hate is how my clothes end up after a few loads of laundry! No matter what delicate settings or even sometimes by avoiding the dryer altogether, clothes just end up not as nice as they were when you buy them. It's a real bummer, especially for sweaters! Sweaters start to lose that soft feeling and blouses start to end up feeling starchy and faded (even with no starch added!) I wonder if the culprit is fabric softener? Or is it the detergent I'm using?! I need something more gentle I guess or maybe we need a new washer.

I guess it must be a real slow day if the only thing I can think of is laundry to talk about, but I'm in a really unhappy with the way this sweater feels, especially when a few months ago it was so happy and soft!

Curses! Damnable scratchy sweater! You deserve to be clothed in nothing but down soft cloudy goodness, angel!

I am an expert clothes-washer, if I do say so myself! Though I'm very religious about the products I use. I only use Cheer or Cheer Dark depending on what I am washing, as far as detergent. I also use Downy Simple Pleasures as my fabric softener. It makes everything come out SO soft and smells wonderful! I also use handfuls of Downey dryer sheets, which gets expensive, but, again, it smells nice and keeps everything from getting static-y and scratchy.

I think you should just take me on as your full-time laundress! I work for cuddles!

I luuuurrrrve fabric softener, but as a seventeenth century hand-laundry woman that breaks her back washing her clothes in the bathtub, I have to say that sometimes if you're not careful it can add that faded look to your stuff. Watch that.

And sadly, there's no way around your sweaters getting to be...ah, not as nice as they were before. My once-comfy Abercrombie sweater has all those little lint balls all over it now, and my cozier-than-you-can-imagine gray sweater is now covered in various swirls of sheer grey matting that look like snow blowing over....more snow.

Grr.

fabric softener is evil. woolite is not evil. and sweaters do better when dry cleaned. other than those three tidbits, i've found that womens clothes simply do not exhibit the durability that mens clothes do. of course, the blandness of mens clothes tend to reflect their durability.
