The Joys of Dieting

So, I'm trying to lose weight and it's not as easy as it looks! I put on a few pounds after Thanksgiving and spent way too many lunches gorging on Taco Bell. Over the past week I have taken the herculean step of stopping snacking, drinking mostly only water, and changing my eating patterns significantly. My dad sent me a regimen that's supposed to help you lose 10-15 pounds in a week if you stick to it, but you have to eat this horribly disgusting cabbage soup! I made a batch of it and nearly croaked. Sorry cabbage lovers, there is nothing delicious about a cabbage soup.

So I resorted to my own concoction:

Breakfast: 1 small bowl of mixed fruit or Grapenuts/Skim Milk
Lunch: 1/2 of a turkey Subway sandwich on wheat bread or a bowl of Hot & Sour soup
Dinner: Other half of the Subway sandwich
Snacks: A bowl of sliced apples, handful of lowfat pretzels

So far, this lovely diet has stabilized my weight, and I've only lost like 1-2 pounds. Also, my tummy seems a little bit less fat and I find myself less huungry. However, I'm not sure this diet is very healthy in the long run. I think I may need to add more protein to the mix.

I am always open to good suggestions for a healthy diet that is easy to eat.

GAH!!! YUCK! I tried the cabbage soup diet thing last year! OMFG BAD! That was some of the worst stuff I've ever dared eat!

Sadly, I don't have very good advice as my efforts are not going so well. =( I've cut out soda, and I've been trying a diet Laura shared with me where you eat 300 calories every 3 daytime hours. Presumably this keeps you from getting hungry and snacking, but so far no great loss of poundage. =(

The South Beach Diet worked for me, as you probably remember. But it's hard to stick with forever (but then, most diets are). Sometimes I wonder how I ever got up the willpower to make it through that.

i was real good for a few years and managed to keep my weight under control. the past year, i've been a total weakling, and i'm close to 20 pounds heavier than i was when i got married on 9/3/05. i also haven't been to the gym in about 3 months. ugh.

Eat little snacks in between meals, such as celery and nuts.

Also, watch your calories. Below 2000 is great. What you drink, such as pop, etc, can have a major effect on weight.

And above all of course, exercise. Walking 30-40 min a day, along with crunches/push-ups/jumping jacks.

Wow! Some great advice from all of you.

I will try adding some nuts with the fruit for some protein and try to balance my carbs like the South Beach Diet.

And of course exercise!

L.A Weightless and common sense worked for me from 16 to 5 or 222lbs to 145, granted it was over 3 years. I forced myself to eat salads for the first time back then and cut back the frequency of eating. You can do it. I really think grapefruit juice helped me the most.
